Applying to Become a Mentor Supervisor Candidate (MSC)

The Candidacy Committee, comprised of credentialed mentor/supervisors and members of the Federation Board, will consider applicants who are current, practicing CAPF/CPT/ PTRs in good standing with NFBPT who have:

  • a minimum of 2 years post-credentialing experience
  • worked with at least 3 additional different populations/issues/venues [more about this]
  • a minimum of 200 hours post-credentialing experience covering a range of word art modalities [more about this] in addition to poetry and journal work, and both group and individual sessions.

In addition to these minimum requirements, the committee will be considering your education, work and teaching experience, and ability to supervise the training of others. Approved candidates will have demonstrated that they are not only skilled and active CAPF/CPT/PTRs, but also that they have the background and/or potential to develop the very different skill set required to be inspirational mentor/supervisors.

The following items, as well as any related questions, may be emailed to Candidacy@nfbpt.com:

  1. Have your own mentor/supervisor submit a completed recommendation form [download this form].  If your M/S is not available or if you’ve worked extensively with another current M/S, you may use him/her as a reference.

  2. Submit a one-to-two page typewritten statement describing why you would like to become an M/S. Include a description of your professional qualifications including leadership, teaching, and supervising experiences to date. Describe your strengths and growth edges, as you perceive them.

  3. Provide documentation of a minimum of 200 hours post-credentialing experience covering a range of word art modalities in addition to poetry and journal work, and both group and individual sessions. You can document your accrued 200 hours in multiple ways. Suggested forms would include: dates/times and location and lengths of individual and group sessions; copies from catalog pages, advertising, brochures; letter/s from supervisors or location personnel.

  4. Download and print the application document [download this form (PDF)].  Please initial each item and sign and date at the bottom and then send it along with your non-refundable application fee of $100 to:
