Becoming a Mentor/Supervisor

MENTOR/SUPERVISOR CANDIDATES

The National Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy welcomes your interest in becoming a mentor/supervisor, certified to train others to become applied poetry facilitators and/or poetry therapists. Outlined below are the requirements for being accepted as a mentor/supervisor candidate.

Applicants should be current, practicing CAPF/CPT/PTRs in good standing with NFBPT.

  1. Submit the recommendation of your own mentor/supervisor (or another if yours is not available or if you’ve worked extensively with another current M/S).  Your M/S will be provided with a list of items of interest the candidacy committee would like addressed.
  2. Submit a written statement describing why you would like to become an M/S. Include a description of your professional qualifications: leadership, teaching, and supervising experience to date. Describe your strengths and growth edges, as you perceive them. Include a signed adverse action statement/ethics commitment/ mental health assurance (letter to be provided.)
  3. Agree to the requirement that you are eligible to train PT trainees with credentials comparable to your own (thus a CAPF-M/S will be eligible to train CAPF trainees, a CPT-M/S to train CAPF and CPT trainees. A PTR-M/S will be eligible to train any student.)
  4. Agree to train following the credentialing expectations for trainees as outlined in the NFBPT training guide, including requiring and responding to plans and reports for facilitation.
  5. An application fee of $100.

Once the above are reviewed by the candidacy committee, if the candidacy is approved, the applicant will be invited for a personal interview by teleconference or in-person.
